FirstLine Therapy Lifestyle Medicine Program

At True Health Naturopathic Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine is our FirstLine Therapy®.

Whether you believe you have a short or long journey to optimal health, the first step is having a map. This helps to ensure that you are moving in the right direction and headed towards your chosen destination.

We are here to help you create the unique map that will get you where you want to go. From body chemistry to current medical issues, from food choices to exercise plans, from stress levels to sleep patterns, we work with you to find your specific formula for success.

Our Lifestyle Medicine Programs are delivered through a combination of appointments with Dr. Paulson, the naturopathic doctor, at a rate of $3 per minute ($180/hour), and our Lifestyle Educator, Jenn Lutz, at a rate of $1 per minute ($60/hour).

Dr. Paulson will see you for your initial visit. This appointment will include an extensive health history and an in-depth interview of current symptoms and health concerns. A symptom-oriented physical exam may be conducted if necessary. Laboratory testing may be recommended if further investigation is required.

A nutraceutical treatment plan will be created to address your health concerns which may include target nutrition (vitamins, minerals), herbal remedies and/or homeopathy. Follow-up visits will also be scheduled with Dr. Paulson to order any additional labs, modify your progress or suggest additional treatment recommendations.

You will discuss diet, exercise, stress management, a better sleep schedule and anything else that is relevant and interesting to you regarding your health. She will help you sort through the overwhelming amount of information on the internet, stories you hear from family and friends, or something you saw on TV. Then she will guide you with accurate, up-to-date, specific-to-you information to help you meet your health goals.

Jenn will inspire you to discover your own insights, she will cheerlead from the sidelines, and she will keep you focused and determined with personal goals created together at every visit. All appointments with both health specialists will be scheduled to meet your needs.

As Lao Tzu once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” We would be honored to take that first step with you.

FirstLine Therapy®
Weight Loss Program

A Better Way to Weight Loss

Trying to lose weight and keep it off can be discouraging and the abundance of information out there on the best way to do it can be overwhelming. Paleo? Keto? Vegetarian? Intermittent fasting? Eat 5 mini meals daily?. AHHHH! What is the best way? That depends on YOU and what your body responds best to. This isn’t a matter of trying everything until one method works – through a thorough health history and symptomatology interview, possibly some labs to determine underlying physiological contributions, Dr. Paulson will have a good idea of what approach might work best for you. Then each and every appointment and treatment plan is customized just for you. Our approach focuses on bio-individuality. Your body operates in its own unique manner and is influenced by every aspect of your life – which is not the same for any two people. So how can the approach to losing weight be the same for everybody? It can’t!

Our plan is like no other in that it combines a naturopathic approach with lifestyle education. Using naturopathic medicine principles as a foundation, you will be guided in figuring out WHY you have been unable to lose weight. Once you uncover your why, you will be able to work on what to do to help heal your body so that losing weight is easier than before. And, the program is the how – how to make it happen.

Here is what it entails:

  • An initial 60 minute visit plus 2 additional 30 minute naturopathic doctor consults with Dr. Paulson where she will assess your individual wellness needs. A revised treatment plan will be created at each visit to address your health concerns and may include target nutrition (vitamins, mineral, phytonutrients or probiotics), botanical medicine and homeopathy.
  • Six one hour bi-weekly appointments scheduled with the Lifestyle Educator to help create and guide you on your lifestyle medicine plan as prescribed by the naturopathic doctor. Depending on your health concerns this may include a personalized meal plan for your body composition, personal training sessions for exercise, metabolic detoxification or a stress management plan ($60 each visit).
  • Six InBody https://www.inbodyusa.com/ body composition check-ins so that you know that what you’re doing is really working ($25 each).
  • Educational handouts, our Patient Guide book and our Cook Wise recipe book

This program takes place over the course of 14 weeks and is intended to be a jump start to help you gain momentum towards your optimal body composition goals.

This isn’t your typical jump start where we focus on fast, dramatic weight loss results that you have to keep repeating because your metabolism decreases and you gain the weight back. This is about going the distance. This is about changing your life for the better, and the weight loss comes naturally. One step at a time.

Investment: This 14 week program is $850 and is customizable to meet your unique health needs. Labs and nutritional supplements are not included in the program. For more information, please reach out to Jennifer Lutz.

FirstLine Therapy®
Detoxification Program

Toxins surround us – in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the things we touch and that touch us. Supporting our natural Detoxification processes is an important part of reaching and maintaining optimal health. For that, Dr. Paulson recommends participating in a metabolic detoxification program one to four times per year (depending on how “toxic” your year has been).

Choose between our 10 day and 28 day clear change detoxification program to help your body manage the toxin exposures we encounter every day and work towards your healthiest you.

The 10 day detox program is designed for those who have participated in a modified elimination diet or detoxification program in the past and are healthy enough to jump into a more aggressive detoxification program.

Our 28 day program is geared towards those who have not participated in a modified elimination diet or detoxification program in the past and require a gentler approach to detoxification.

Not sure which one is for you? Give us a call at 715-483-1315 and we can help you make the best choice.

This detox plan is NOT about starving your body, taking laxatives that have you running for the bathroom, juicing, or taking a bunch of supplements and not eating. The pillars of the plan include…

  • Eating real, whole food
  • Supporting your body using medical foods through the detox
  • Eliminating environmental toxins
  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Identifying what specific foods work well for your body
  • Learning more about sleep and stress management
  • Learning how to eat during the detox and through your life moving forward

For both plans, the food plan is very flexible and allows you to maintain your personal tastes and preferences. There is an emphasis on the importance of balancing blood-sugar levels and eating a balanced diet with plenty of macro- and micronutrients. Throughout both programs you are provided with the necessary supplements to allow for your body to gently detox while maintaining adequate nutrient intake. Through this process, you gain an increased awareness around what foods do and don’t work well for your body. This awareness becomes invaluable as there are some foods that we can eat on a regular basis that can contribute to our ill feelings. With these distinctions, you gain the ability to know how to eat to gain vitality, energy and health.

10 Day Detox $229

Includes:

1 canister UltraClear RENEW medical food, small (42 capsules) AdvaClear, Blender Bottle, 10 Day Clear Change Patient Guide Book, two 30 minute Lifestyle Education sessions with two InBody body composition tests (before and after your detox) so we can personalize your plan for best outcomes and follow through post detox.

28 Day Detox $600

Includes:

3 canisters UltraClear RENEW medical food, large (126 capsules) AdvaClear, Blender Bottle, Clear Change Patient Guide Book, four 30 minute Lifestyle Education sessions, two InBody body composition tests (before and after your detox) so we can personalize your plan for best outcomes and follow through post detox.

Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine we can work with your medical provider who will continue to monitor your medications, while we help you work on the underlying cause. The end goal is disease resolution, so medications are no longer necessary.

FirstLine Therapy® Heart Health Program

Almost 1 in 4 adults will die due to Cardiovascular disease which remains the number one cause of death in the United States.

Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine, through our lifestyle medicine programs, we can help you minimize disease induction and side effects of many medications while you work on the underlying cause of your cardiovascular disease and put health back into your body. The end goal is disease resolution so medications are no longer necessary.

FirstLine Therapy® 4 ‘R’ Gut Restoration Program

Heart burn, indigestion, gas, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea? Time for a gut overhaul? You are a great candidate for our 4 ‘R’ gut restoration program.

Here is what it entails:

  • An initial 60 minute visit plus 2 additional 30 minute naturopathic doctor consults with Dr. Paulson where she will assess your individual wellness needs. A revised treatment plan will be created at each visit to address your digestive health concerns and support the 4 ‘R’s for optimal digestive system function.
  1. Remove things that may be causing gut distress. For many of us this is sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dairy, gluten. For some it’s raw vegetables (although cooked should be fine).   Eggs are a culprit in some cases. Certainly any food you commonly see in your stool you’ll want to take out too. You’ll also want to remove any excessive bad bacteria/yeast that may have overgrown for which I recommend various antimicrobials that help decrease the number of bad bugs residing in your gut.
  2. Replace the good stuff. Foods with lots of fiber like cooked (raw if you can) vegetables and fruit. If you’re not big on those types of foods you’ll want to consider a fiber supplement like Herbulk for more lose stool or Metafiber for hard, broken stool. Replace digestive enzymes which may include enzymes to break down carbohydrate, fats and/or proteins, Betaine to help stimulate stomach acid, ox bile to help support gallbladder function, or a comprehensive pancreatic digestive enzyme to digest better in the small intestines.
  3. Re-inoculate with good bacteria like Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium (probiotics) which help break down fiber and provide short chain fatty acids to maintain healthy intestinal cells. My favorite probiotic that I use myself is called Ultra Flora Balance with 15 billion good bacteria in every capsule.
  4. Repair your gut with the most abundant amino acid in the intestinal cells – glutamine. I most often prescribed the product Glutagenics which is a combination of L-glutamine and aloe to help repair cells in the intestines and stomach.

This program takes place over the course of 14 weeks and is the first line therapy for the treatment of those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, heart burn and GERD, SIBO, Gallbladder attacks and symptoms and to support all round good digestion function.

FirstLine Therapy® Chronic Fatigue Program

The challenge with the diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue is that although it explains your symptoms, it makes no suggestion as to the underlying cause. Is it Thyroid? Anemia? Mitochondrial dysfunction? Adrenal fatigue? Lyme disease? Depression? The complicated thing is it could be all of the above. Where do you start? Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine, we believe lifestyle medicine is the first line treatment for complicated syndromes like chronic fatigue that can be implemented in conjunction with various pharmaceuticals to manage symptoms as you work on addressing the underlying cause. We offer a 14 week lifestyle medicine program that is personalized to you to address the potential underlying causes of your fatigue.

Here is what it entails:

  • An initial 60 minute visit plus 2 additional 30 minute naturopathic doctor consults with Dr. Paulson where she will assess your individual wellness needs. FirstLine Therapy® Fibromyalgia Program

Fibromyalgia is the most common musculoskeletal condition after osteoarthritis and is characterized as widespread muscle and joint pain and is associated with fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and foggy brain. The limitation to this diagnosis is it makes no suggestion as to the underlying cause, and clinical experience has taught me, that what is causing one person’s Fibromyalgia is completely different than that of another’s. A history of a cervical injury such as whiplash, chronic stress, tic born infections, accumulated toxicity, are all possibilities. Although select pharmaceuticals can help manage the symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia, the goal should be to address the underlying cause. Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine, we believe that lifestyle medicine is the best approach to treating the underlying cause(s) of Fibromyalgia.

This program takes place over the course of 14 weeks and is the first line therapy for the treatment of those with Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

Thermography
Thousands of people in the United States have taken advantage of Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging. (DITI) DITI detects heat to measure the physiological activity in your body. This clinical test is supported by 30 years of research and over 8000 published medical studies. This procedure takes less than 20 minutes, requires no physical contact, is 100% safe with no radiation and is FDA approved.

Medical DITI is a non-invasive, safe, diagnostic tool that pictures and analyzes changes in the skin’s surface temperature without the use of radiation. While X-rays, ultrasound, and mammography show us the structure of the body, they will miss such things as active inflammation and increased blood supply as found in many illnesses. DITI is a unique technology that takes a picture and creates a map of the infrared patterns of the body. It is different from other screening tools because it helps you to see how your body functions.

DITI is now available to people in the area who want access to the earliest, safest, and most comfortable screening that technology offers without sacrificing effectiveness. An infrared scanning device is used to convert infrared imaging from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are shown in color on a monitor.

This visual image maps the body temperature and is referred to as a thermogram. The spectrum of colors indicates an increase or decrease in the amount of heat being emitted from the body surface. Since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature differences are easily identified. Medical DITI is highly sensitive to variations in the vascular, muscular, neural, and skeletal systems and can contribute invaluable information to a diagnosis made by a physician.

For more information on thermography, please visit the website PictureMyHealth.com. True Health hosts thermography appointments on a quarterly basis. For dates and times, click here.

Fees vary depending on the areas imaged and range between $185 – $409.
