A Better Way to Weight Loss

Trying to lose weight and keep it off can be discouraging and the abundance of information out there on the best way to do it can be overwhelming. Paleo? Keto? Vegetarian? Intermittent fasting? Eat 5 mini meals daily?. AHHHH! What is the best way? That depends on YOU and what your body responds best to. This isn’t a matter of trying everything until one method works – through a thorough health history and symptomatology interview, possibly some labs to determine underlying physiological contributions, Dr. Paulson will have a good idea of what approach might work best for you. Then each and every appointment and treatment plan is customized just for you. Our approach focuses on bio-individuality. Your body operates in its own unique manner and is influenced by every aspect of your life – which is not the same for any two people. So how can the approach to losing weight be the same for everybody? It can’t!

Our plan is like no other in that it combines a naturopathic approach with lifestyle education. Using naturopathic medicine principles as a foundation, you will be guided in figuring out WHY you have been unable to lose weight. Once you uncover your why, you will be able to work on what to do to help heal your body so that losing weight is easier than before. And, the program is the how – how to make it happen.

Here is what it entails:

  • An initial 60 minute visit plus 2 additional 30 minute naturopathic doctor consults with Dr. Paulson where she will assess your individual wellness needs. A revised treatment plan will be created at each visit to address your health concerns and may include target nutrition (vitamins, mineral, phytonutrients or probiotics), botanical medicine and homeopathy.
  • Six one hour bi-weekly appointments scheduled with the Lifestyle Educator to help create and guide you on your lifestyle medicine plan as prescribed by the naturopathic doctor. Depending on your health concerns this may include a personalized meal plan for your body composition, personal training sessions for exercise, metabolic detoxification or a stress management plan ($60 each visit).
  • Six InBody https://www.inbodyusa.com/ body composition check-ins so that you know that what you’re doing is really working ($25 each).
  • Educational handouts, our Patient Guide book and our Cook Wise recipe book

This program takes place over the course of 14 weeks and is intended to be a jump start to help you gain momentum towards your optimal body composition goals.

This isn’t your typical jump start where we focus on fast, dramatic weight loss results that you have to keep repeating because your metabolism decreases and you gain the weight back. This is about going the distance. This is about changing your life for the better, and the weight loss comes naturally. One step at a time.

Investment: This 14 week program is $850 and is customizable to meet your unique health needs. Labs and nutritional supplements are not included in the program. For more information, please reach out to Jennifer Lutz.

According to the American Diabetes Association over 29 million Americans had Diabetes by the year 2012 with 1.4 million new cases every year. Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. Unfortunately, what we mostly do for Type II Diabetes is mostly not working – treating the symptoms only, without strict focus on treating the underlying cause. Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine we can work with your medical provider who will continue to monitor your medications, while we help you work on the underlying cause. The end goal is disease resolution, so medications are no longer necessary.

FirstLine Therapy® Heart Health Program

Almost 1 in 4 adults will die due to Cardiovascular disease which remains the number one cause of death in the United States.

Conventional medical management of cardiovascular disease entails various pharmaceutical combinations and surgical interventions. Unfortunately according to some statistics, drug interactions in combination with medical errors and disease induction when combined together, are also the leading of death in America. Here at True Health Naturopathic Medicine, through our lifestyle medicine programs, we can help you minimize disease induction and side effects of many medications while you work on the underlying cause of your cardiovascular disease and put health back into your body. The end goal is disease resolution so medications are no longer necessary.

Heart burn, indigestion, gas, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea? Time for a gut overhaul? You are a great candidate for our 4 ‘R’ gut restoration program.

Here is what it entails:

  • An initial 60 minute visit plus 2 additional 30 minute naturopathic doctor consults with Dr. Paulson where she will assess your individual wellness needs. A revised treatment plan will be created at each visit to address your digestive health concerns and support the 4 ‘R’s for optimal digestive system function.
  1. Remove things that may be causing gut distress. For many of us this is sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dairy, gluten. For some it’s raw vegetables (although cooked should be fine).   Eggs are a culprit in some cases. Certainly any food you commonly see in your stool you’ll want to take out too. You’ll also want to remove any excessive bad bacteria/yeast that may have overgrown for which I recommend various antimicrobials that help decrease the number of bad bugs residing in your gut.
  2. Replace the good stuff. Foods with lots of fiber like cooked (raw if you can) vegetables and fruit. If you’re not big on those types of foods you’ll want to consider a fiber supplement like Herbulk for more lose stool or Metafiber for hard, broken stool. Replace digestive enzymes which may include enzymes to break down carbohydrate, fats and/or proteins, Betaine to help stimulate stomach acid, ox bile to help support gallbladder function, or a comprehensive pancreatic digestive enzyme to digest better in the small intestines.
  3. Re-inoculate with good bacteria like Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium (probiotics) which help break down fiber and provide short chain fatty acids to maintain healthy intestinal cells. My favorite probiotic that I use myself is called Ultra Flora Balance with 15 billion good bacteria in every capsule.
  4. Repair your gut with the most abundant amino acid in the intestinal cells – glutamine. I most often prescribed the product Glutagenics which is a combination of L-glutamine and aloe to help repair cells in the intestines and stomach.

Auto-immune conditions are complex. Although we are often told there is no known cause, logically it doesn't make sense that your body just wakes up one day and starts attacking perfectly health tissue. Something has set your immune system off. Is it an old Epstein Barr virus? A tick borne infection? Estrogen? Gluten? The list is long, but typically once I hear your whole story, I have a good idea of what might have set your immune system off. Following healthy diet and lifestyle behaviors with targeted nutrition over a 12-14 period can help your immune system re-balance itself and symptoms resolve or diminish.
